Here are some tips that will help you these winter months.

  1. Clean Skin– Be sure to keep your skin clean. But don’t overdo it.
  2. Humidify– Dry cold air can pull the moisture from your skin. Here is where a room humidifier may help.
  3. Moisturizer Your Skin– You should use a petroleum based or cream-based moisturizers are better than regular skin lotion when your skin is dry.
  4. Hot Water and Soap – Be sure and limit the use of hot water and detergent based cleansers. Either take a lukewarm shower or use a non-detergent based cleaner. Then apply a petroleum or cream-based moisturizer.
  5. The Wind- Always protect your skin from the wind and use a petroleum-based lip balm
  6. Winter Sun– Even though it is cold outside the sun still can be a concern. Be sure and use a sunscreen with a protection factor of 15 or greater.
  7. Vitamin Uses- In the summer months due to the exposure to sunlight we naturally produce a sufficient amount of vitamin D, but in the winter our exposure to the sun is reduced. Therefore, taking a supplement of Vitamin D can help.
  8. Tanning– Tanning beds and artificial tanning lamps are always not a good idea, they become a bigger problem in the Winter when we want to keep that Summer Tan look all year long. Try self-tanners with extra moisturizers.
  9. Avoid Extreme Cold– When it is extremely cold outside, your skin becomes more venerable.
